Cross Country Completes Final Tuneup Before Conference Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Elms College men's and women's cross country competed in their final tune-up before the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championships, racing at the 2016 Western New England University Cross Country Invitational, on the campus of Western New England Saturday afternoon.

For the men's squad, freshman Rich Hernandez (North Branford, Conn.) crossed the finish line in a time of 31:35, while senior Joshua Diaz Rolon (Chicopee, Mass.) clocked in at 32:15, setting his season-best time, as well as his individual best time on the Western New England course.

On the women's side, junior Sarah Tatgenhorst (Winterport, Maine) led the squad with a time of 21:27 to finish 47th overall of a 242-runner field. Freshman Ariah Willemain (Belchertown, Mass.) posted a time of 24:41, followed by classmate Mary Kirsimagi (Stephentown, N.Y.) just four seconds behind at 24:45. Junior Sarah Kaczenski (Northfield, Mass.) registered a time of 25:16, and freshman Emma Morton (Southwick, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers runners with a time of 25:49.

The Blazers will return to action for the 2016 New England Collegiate Conference Championship, hosted at Stanley Park in Westfield, Massachusetts on October 29th.
