Men's Soccer Lose in a Tough Conference Battle to Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – The Elms College Men's Soccer team traveled to Emmanuel College for a conference matchup on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first half would kick off with Emmanuel taking two shots early, which would be followed by the first goal of the game in the sixth minute. Following a corner kick, sophomore midfielder Patricio Vidales (Cancun, Mexico) would score an equalizing goal for Elms in the seventh minute of play. Shortly thereafter, the Saints offense would connect for a second goal in the 13th minute of play to go up 2-1. Vidales would take a shot moments later, but that shot would be saved by the Emmanuel goalkeeper. The Saints offense would continue to put pressure on the Blazers defense, with a shot in the 26th minute of play that would be saved by senior goalkeeper Aidan Berube (Chicopee, Mass.). The two sides would trade possession, but the Saints would hold their lead going into the halftime break.

Emmanuel would continue their first half momentum in the opening minutes of the second half, taking three shots in the first 15 minutes. In the 76th minute, a yellow card would be pulled out for senior defender Emmanuel Monge (Humacao, Puerto Rico). As the final minutes were ticking down, sophomore Nicolas Velasquez (Ellington, Conn.) would take a shot for Elms, but it would end up going wide left, and the Saints would win the game 2-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Vidales would lead the Blazers with two shots and a goal.

  • Berube would make one save during the game.

  • Velasquez would take one shot.
