Blazers Drop Home Match to Wildcats

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College men' s soccer hosted the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats this afternoon on Leary Field where the Blazers fell 5-0.

The Basics

1st Half How It Happened

The first half was scoreless battle for both the Blazers and the Wildcats, with goalkeepers from each team having 3 saves keeping the score at a draw of 0-0. The Wildcats led the first half with eight shots and Elms with four, with both teams having only one corner kick. The Blazers had many possible scoring opportunities but were stopped short for being called offsides. The Elms men were playing smart controlled defense getting only two out of the eight in total foul calls all half. Score tied 0-0 heading into the half.

2nd Half How It Happened

Johnson & Wales started off with a header attempt from Jonathan Baker off of a corner kick, but was denied by Blazers Collin Liedke (Newington,CT) keeping the Wildcats scoreless. It wasn't until the 59th minute that the Wildcats got on the board with an unassisted goal by Austin Sweeney (1-0). Elms' Musa Jaina (chicopee, MA)attempted to tie the score but was saved by the Wildcats goalie. 

The Wildcats began to get into a groove and cracked 2 more quick goals by Gianni Lisa and Connor Elliot. Due to a yellow card given to Elms' Brandyn Costa (Palmer, MA) inside the box the Wildcats were rewarded with a penalty kick, which was scored by Elliot who now had two out of the four Wildcats goals. Johnson & Wales ended the game with a final header by Quinton Kramarck, sending the Wildcats to their 5-0 win.
