O’Grady Nets Two Goals to Lead Men’s Soccer Over Mount Ida College, 3-0

NEWTON, Mass. – Elms College junior forward Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) netted two goals for the second straight game to help pace the Blazers to a 3-0 win over Mount Ida College in Thursday afternoon's non-conference men's soccer game at Alumni Field in Newton, Mass.

With the win, Elms has now won four of its last five and improves to 5-5-1 on the season, while Mount Ida moves to 6-6-1 overall.

The sides played a tightly contested first half of action as both Elms and Mount Ida registered nine shots, with neither team finding the back of the net to keep the game a scoreless stalemate at intermission.

In the second half, Adam O'Grady opened the scoring in the 54th minute when he found himself in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper and beat the Mustang's net-minder with a shot into the lower right hand corner of the net to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, Adam O'Grady and junior forward Ziggy Jonathan (Burundi, Africa) broke through the Mount Ida defense and Jonathan delivered a pass that set up Adam O'Grady with his second goal of the contest and his fourth scoring strike in two games which lifted Elms' advantage to 2-0.

At the 76:38 mark, sophomore forward Joseph Coleman (Easthampton, Mass.) connected a through ball to freshman midfielder Gerard Lawler (Langwarrin, Victoria, Australia) who finished with the Blazers' third goal of the match.

Blazers' freshman net-minder Christian Kostka (Oxford, Conn.) was tremendous between the pipes, turning away all seven shots on goal that he faced to seal the shutout victory.

Mustangs' goalkeeper Matt Pils (Monroe, Conn.) notched five saves in the loss for Mount Ida.

Freshman defender Connor O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) added two shots on goal in the winning effort.

Elms returns to conference action on Saturday, Oct. 13 when it travels to Newbury College for a 1:00 p.m. game against the Nighthawks.
