Men's Basketball Slips at Daniel Webster

NASHUA, N.H. – Powered by a game-high 20 points from Ryan Gauthier (Nashua) and five players reached double figures in scoring, as host Daniel Webster picked up a key NECC victory and topped Elms for the third straight time at home with a hard-fought 68-63 victory Tuesday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

The win, which halted a three-game skid for the Eagles (7-12, 4-6 NECC) was a much-needed shot in the arm as DWC kept its hold on sixth place in the league standings and handed the second place Blazers (8-10, 7-3 NECC) their third loss in their last four outings.

Gauthier would knock down three three-pointers, adding eight rebounds and four assists while Ray Farmer (Nashua) pulled in his team leading seventh double of the year with 12 points and 10 boards and dished out a game-high six assists. Angelo Adon (Silver Spring, Md.) added 12 points with three three-pointers.

Michael Campbell (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) added 10 points and seven rebounds while Shawn Fenton (South River, N.J.) had 10 points and six boards for the winners.

Jerry Buchanon (Windsor, Conn.) led Elms with 19 points including three from outside, while Kenny Lockett (Atlanta, Ga.) notched 14 and Tim Putnam (Windsor Locks, Conn.) posted 10 points off the bench. Conny Ihearahu (Largo, Md.) chipped in with eight points.

The teams were tied with as late as three minutes left before a Farmer layup off a Fenton pass and a huge layup from Khial Watson with 54 seconds on the clock helped push DWC ahead by three and Elms misfired on its final four shots allowing the Eagles to escape with the win.

DWC, which trailed by three at the half, fell behind by as many as five (39-34) in the opening minutes of the second after Buchanon three. But a Campbell layup and Adon trey helped push DWC back in front (40-39) as part of a 13-1 run that was punctuated with a Gauthier layup for a 47-40 lead with 11:23 to go.

But Elms would chip away and get the lead down to three and then back to back buckets from Buchanon and Ihearahu put the Green and Gold back in front (59-58) with 5:19remaining setting the stage for DWC's late push the close it out.

The Eagles return to action on Friday as they visit Wheelock in the first leg of a NECC home-and-home pair beginning at 7:00 p.m. on the campus of Pine Manor College.
