Men's Basketball Falls in Season Opener

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Bowdoin College advanced to championship of the Rick Martin/Holiday Inn Express tournament with a 77-57 win over Elms College Saturday, Nov. 15 in the Woodward Center on the campus of Westfield State University.

Lucas Hausman paced Bowdoin with a game-high 22 points.  All five starters for the Polar Bears reached double digit point totals; Bryan Hurley (10), Neil Fuller (11), Matt Palecki (12) and John Swords (16).

Fuller and Swords added eight rebounds each in the win, Bowdoin held a 42-17 edge in that category including 16 on the offensive side.

Bowdoin was able to control the game from start to finish, never trailing after the second minute and Elms was not able to get within single digits for the last 30 minutes.

The Elms defense kept the game respectable and forced 20 Bowdoin turnovers, Blazer junior guard Piere Simpson (East Hartford, Conn.) nabbed four of the team's 10 steals.

Elms senior forward Kenny Lockett (Atlanta, Ga.) and junior guard Jerry Buchanon (Windsor, Conn.) led the Blazers in points with 14 and 13 respectively.

Elms College will play Manhattanville College at 1 p.m., tomorrow, Nov. 16 in the consolation game while Bowdoin College will take on tournament hosts Westfield State University at 3 p.m.
