Buchanon Selected as NECC Player of the Week

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Elms College junior guard Jerry Buchanon (Windsor, Conn.) was selected as the New England Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday morning. This is Buchanon's first player of the week award of his career.

Buchanon was an offensive force for the Blazers in a pair of NECC victories last week. During a 63-57 home win over Becker, Buchanon delivered his second 20-point performance of the season with 28 points, knocing down a season-high four three-pointers, and five rebounds. In a triple-overtime thriller at Regis, Buchanon buried a contested three-pointer in the final seconds of the second overtime to force the third overtime. Buchanon finished the contest with 27 points and a season-high seven rebounds as the Blazers remained perfect in the NECC with a 92-90 win.

On the season, Jerry leads Elms with 16.9 points per game, shooting 45% from the floor and 40% from three-point range, with 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists. Buchanon ranks fourth in the NECC in three-point field goal percentage, and sixth in scoring.

The Blazers return to action hosting a conference tilt against Newbury College at Picknelly Arena Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.
