Women's Swimming Races Against Western New England

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's swimming team fell to visiting Western New England University, 145-104, in a dual meet at Partyka Natatorium Wednesday evening.

Freshman Kayla Gurney (Wilbraham, Mass.) posted a pair of first-place finishes, winning the 50 meter breaststroke (39.29) and the 200 meter breaststroke (3:05.71), along with third in the 200 meter butterfly (36.32). Sophomore Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) came in first in the 50 meter backstroke (37.14), second in the 200 meter individual medley (3:06.04), and third in the 100 meter backstroke (1:21.38). Freshman Desi Milar (Springfield, Mass.) collected a trio of second-place finishes in the 50 meter freestyle (31.88), the 100 meter freestyle (1:10.89), and the 200 meter freestyle (2:34.92). Senior Kim Panetta (Belchertown, Mass.) took second in the 50 meter butterfly (36.28) and the 100 meter butterfly (1:22.03), while junior Kelly O'Connell (Monson, Mass.) grabbed second in the 400 meter freestyle (5:50.59) and the 800 meter freestyle (11:50.10). Junior Rebecca Carterud (South Windsor, Conn.) placed third in the 400 meter freestyle (6:02.85) and the 800 meter freestyle (11:56.24). Senior Crystal Archibald (Portland, Maine) nabbed third in the 50 meter breaststroke (42.94) and the 200 meter breaststroke (3:16.08). Senior Miranda Pratt (Southington, Conn.) finished third in the 200 meter freestyle (3:19.00), and freshman Amanda Rotberg (Rowley, Mass.) was fourth in the 50 meter backstroke (41.71) and the 400 meter freestyle (6:42.58).

The Blazers men's team competed in time trials during the women's meet where junior Ryan Burgos (Plaistow, N.H.) set the Elms school record in the 200 meter backstroke with a time of 2:25.73. Junior Nick Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) breaks his own school record in the 300 meter freestyle in a time of 2:04.12.

The Blazers will be back in action with a road trip to Norwich University Saturday afternoon. The meet starts at 1:00 p.m.
