Women’s Soccer Defeats Becker with Late Goal

Leicester, MA - The Elms College women's soccer team defeated Becker College (2-1) on Saturday night at Alumni Field. The Blazers and Hawks found themselves in a back and forth game that featured scoring chances for both teams and some very physical play. Elms was able to secure the win after finding the game winner in the 84th minute of play, and improve to 2-1 on the spring season.

The home side got on the board early after being awarded a penalty kick in the seventh minute and converting to go up (1-0). Elms did not wait around long and found the equalizer just nine minutes later. The Blazers executed some sharp passing though the midfield and sent Morgan Foucault (Putnam, CT) in all alone on the Becker keeper. Foucault would be taken down in the penalty area, and the Blazers were awarded a penalty kick of their own. Sophomore Kayla Pasquel (North Attelboro, MA) stepped up and converted the PK to tie things up at (1-1).

The next 68 minutes saw back and forth action with both team getting quality scoring chances. The Hawks nearly took the lead in the 80th minute off a corner, but first year keeper Angela Picheo (Wood-Ridge, NJ) was able to parry the shot off the crossbar and collect the rebound. Only four minutes later the visitors found the eventual game winner off the foot of Sam Landry (Agawam, MA).

Landry collected a pass along the sideline and was able to get past a defender and carry the ball into the Becker end and find a streaking Pasquel. Pasquel then found Elaina Vilar (Watertown, CT) and hit a perfect through ball sending Vilar in 1 on 1 to goal. Vilar's shot was saved by the Becker keeper, but Landry was able to pounce and find the back of the net for her first collegiate goal and the game winner.

The Blazers are back on the field Tuesday 4/27 at 7pm when they host Eastern Nazarene College. Elms will also be celebrating the careers of 3 seniors before the game.
