Rossignol Lifts Women’s Soccer to 1-0 Overtime Win Over Mitchell College

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore midfielder Michelle Rossignol (Manchester, Conn.) converted a penalty kick in the 100th minute of action to break a scoreless tie and lift the Blazers to a 1-0 overtime win over Mitchell College in Wednesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms improves to 4-7-1 overall, 3-1-0 in NECC play, while Mitchell moves to 1-8-0 on the season, 1-3-0 in conference action.

The Blazers placed 23 shots on target and Mitchell goalkeeper Kaylee Woodford (Niantic, Conn.) stopped 21 of them and had some help from her defensive line after Elms' forward Victoria Cebula (Granby, Mass.) played the ball towards goal following a corner kick from sophomore forward Melissa Welch (Westfield, Mass.) at the 87:56 mark.

Woodford made 11 of her 21 saves in the second half and turned aside three more shots in the overtime period before Rossignol delivered the game-winner.

Alexandra Mahar (Watertown, Conn.) had two of Mitchell's three shots in the contest including one in the overtime frame that Elms' sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) corralled as she finished with three saves in the contest.

Welch and Cebula combined for nine shots on goal, while Rossignol, junior midfielder Carmen Marino (Granby, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Kylen O'Hearn (Somers, Conn.) had three shots on target apiece.

Elms is back in action when it hosts Newbury College in league action on Saturday, October 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
