MCLA Edges Women’s Soccer, 1-0

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Elms College junior goalkeeper Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) made seven saves but MCLA's Kelsey Marini (Palmer, Mass.) scored what stood as the game-winner in the 65th minute to give the Trailblazers a 1-0 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's non-conference women's soccer game.

With the loss, Elms moves to 1-3 on the season, while MCLA improves to 2-3 overall.

After a scoreless first frame of play that saw MCLA edge Elms in shots 5-3, the Trailblazers tallied 10 shots in the second period and Marini found pay dirt when she scored from long range following a feed from Katlyn Brown (Scotia, N.Y.) to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Elms had its chances early when sophomore midfielder Melissa Welch (Westfield, Mass.) fired a shot that went wide of target, followed by a shot that sailed just over the crossbar by sophomore midfielder Michelle Rossignol (Manchester, Conn.).

Trailblazers' goalkeeper Danielle Heinsohn (Norfolk, Mass.) made one save in the winning effort.

Elms returns to non-conference competition on Wednesday, September 18 when it hosts Smith College at 7:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
