Women's Lacrosse Preview: Daniel Webster & Wheelock

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's lacrosse squad will hit the road for back-to-back New England Collegiate Conference games over the weekend, facing Daniel Webster Saturday at 11:00 a.m., followed by a tilt at Wheelock Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

The Blazers enter the weekend with a 4-4 overall record, and a 2-0 mark in NECC play after registering decisive wins over Mitchell (22-9) and Bay Path (19-5) in their last two contests. Offensively, the Blazers are generating 9.63 goals on 23.3 shot per game through the first eight games. Junior Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.) serves as the Blazers leader in points and goals with 26 and 23, respectively. Pirog ranks third in the NECC in goals, and fourth in points. Senior Nora McDonough (South Hadley, Mass.) has 25 points with 15 goals and 10 assists, second-most in the NECC. Senior Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) has added 13 goals with a team-high 23 ground balls, and a team-high 14 caused turnovers. Junior Ashley Cava (Wilbraham, Mass.) has tallied nine goals with six assists, while freshman Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) has chipped in six goals and a team-high 25 draw controls. Freshman Haley Roberts (Westfield, Mass.) has five assists with two goals, and freshman Victoria-Lynn Smith (Somers, Conn.) has four goals and 19 ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper Meeghan O'Connor (Fall River, Mass.) ranks second in the NECC in saves (81), and third in goals against average (11.73), and fourth in save percentage (46.3).

Daniel Webster owns a 0-5 record overall, and a 0-2 record in the NECC. The Eagles have been outscored by opponents, 92-24, during their first five games. As a team, Daniel Webster is producing 4.8 goals per game on 13.6 shots per game on offense. Senior Alexis Pavelock (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) paces the Eagles attack with a team-high 11 goals on 19 shots. Sophomore Madeline Roulier (Pittsfield, Mass.) has registered five goals, a team-high four assists, a team-high 24 draw controls, and a team-high 22 ground balls. Freshman Amanda Dargie (Melbourne, Fla.) has scored four goals. Freshman Madison Platte (Manchester, N.H.) has two goals, and sophomore Christina Hem (Lowell, Mass.) has dished out three assists. Freshman goalkeeper Kassandra Scanlon-Napier (Bowmanville, Ontario) owns a 18.75 goals against average with 41 saves and a 35.3 save percentage. All-time, the Blazers are 2-2 against Daniel Webster, dating back to their first meeting in 2010.

Wheelock sits at 0-5 on the season, and 0-1 in conference play through the first five games of the season. Opponents have outscored the Wildcats, 59-37, during that stretch. Wheelock is averaging 7.4 goals per game on 18.8 shots per game as an offense. Freshman Molly Kroon (Londonberry, N.H.) powers the Wildcats with a team-high 16 goals, on 39 shots, with two assists. Senior Molly Centore (Kennebunk, Maine) has nine goals with two assists and a team-high 25 draw controls, while senior Emma Marrs (Old Lyme, Conn.) has doled out a team-high nine assists with nine goals and a team-high 15 ground balls. Sophomore Violet Vig (Glastonbury, Conn.) has two goals with an assists. Sophomore goalie Meghan Lewis (South Berwick, Maine) holds a 12.52 goals against average with 70 saves and a league-leading 55.1 save percentage. All-time, the Blazers are 1-3 against Wheelock, dating back to their first meeting in 2011.
