Three Blazers Receive All-Conference Acclaim

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Three members of the Elms College women's basketball team were selected to the 2017 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) All-Conference squads, announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Senior Alexandra Marques (Newington, Conn.) and junior Mackenzie LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass.) claimed Second Team recognition, while senior Emily Burr (East Hartford, Conn.) took home Third Team honors.

During her senior campaign, Marques led the NECC in total rebounds (344), while ranking second in rebounds per game (12.1) and field goal percentage (49.8) en route to her first All-Conference selection. With 40 blocked shots on the season, Marques tied J.C. Pickett for the most blocks in a single season. Marques amassed 345 points, 344 rebounds, 51 steals, 40 blocks and 21 steals, while registering 17 double-doubles on the season.

LaRochelle was a facilitator for the Blazers offense, averaging 12.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 33.8 minutes per game to claim her first All-Conference honor. On the season, LaRochelle totaled 353 points, 201 rebounds, 121 assists, 42 steals and 21 blocks, ranking second in the league in total assists. With 121 assists, LaRochelle tied Carolyn Talmadge with the second-most assists in a single season in program history.

Burr finished her Blazers career with her second-straight All-Conference selection, adding her Third Team honor with last year's Second Team designation. In her final season in the Green & Gold, Burr became the ninth player in program history to reach the 1,000 career point plateau, finishing with 1,028, eighth-most points all-time. During the 2016-17 season, Burr averaged 10.4 points per game while adding 90 rebounds, 59 assists and 38 steals.

Sophomore Kayla Aberdale (Housatonic, Mass.) was chosen to represent the Blazers on the 2017 NECC Women's Basketball All-Sportsmanship Team.
