Marques Named To NEWBA Weekly Honor Roll

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Elms College senior Alexandra Marques (Newington, Conn.) was selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Weekly Honor Roll, announced by the association Monday. Marques collects her first NEWBA weekly award, and becomes the first Blazers to receive regional status since Denisha Parks in the 2014-15 season.

In a 64-48 non-conference win over Mount Holyoke last week, Marques delivered a career-day, logging her first 20-20 performance with a career-high 20 points and a career-high 22 rebounds to power the Blazers to victory. Marques added two assists, two steals and two blocks in the win. For the season, Marques is averaging 10.8 points and 13.0 rebounds across Elms' opening four games.

Marques and the Blazers will be back on the court with their 2016-17 NECC opener against Newbury College at Picknelly Arena Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
