Field Hockey Cruises To 12-0 Win In NECC-Opener

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey team opened New England Collegiate Conference play with a convincing 12-0 win over Dean on Leary Field on Saturday.

Jeszenia McGuire (Brimfield, Mass.) led Elms (3-6, 1-0 NECC) with four goals, all in the first half, while Carissa Ramirez (San Diego, Calif.) added three goals and three assists. Madison Gabel (Agawam, Mass.) and Evelyn DeVaux (Wethersfield, Conn.) each scored twice for the Blazers and Sarah Bengston (Bristol, Conn.) added a goal for Elms.

Rocky Cabral (Dochester, Mass.) fired one shot in the game for Dean (1-3, 0-1 NECC) while goalkeeper Amari Dias (Brockton, Mass.) turned away 11 Blazer shots. Jamaya Cleveland (Greensboro, Ga.) added a defensive save for the Bulldogs.

Elms finished the game with a 34-1 advantage in shots and a 13-1 advantage in penalty corners. Elms goalkeeper Nora Newman (Woburn, Mass.) did not need to make a save in the shutout win.

The Blazers return to action at New England College on Sept. 29 while Dean will host Becker on Sept. 25.
