McGuire, DeVaux, Ramirez Earn All-NECC Honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Three members of the Elms College field hockey team were vote to the All-New England Collegiate Conference team by the league’s four head coaches, the conference announced on Tuesday. Jeszenia McGuire (Brimfield, Mass.), Carissa Ramirez (San Diego, Calif.) and Evelyn DeVaux (Wethersfield, Conn.) earned the recognition.

McGuire scored 10 goals during the 2018 regular season, the fourth-best total in the NECC. She added four assists to record 24 points, also fourth-best in the conference. McGuire had three multi-goal performances, scoring twice against Clark on Sept. 18, twice at Dean on Oct. 13, and four times against Dean on Sept. 22. She was the NECC Player of the Week on Sept. 24 and was named an NFHCA Honorable Mention National Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 26.

Ramirez racked up 22 points during the regular season with seven goals and eight assists. She collected 16 points in a six-game stretch during the second half of September, picking up a goal and an assist at Sage on Sept. 12 and against Clark on Sept. 18 before exploding for three goals against Dean on Sept. 22 and adding an assist at New England College on Sept. 29.

DeVaux led the NECC with 11 defensive saves in 2018, eight more than the next highest individual total. Four of those defensive saves helped propel the Blazers to a 1-0 win over Maine-Farmington on Oct. 6. Devaux also added four goals and one assist for nine points during the regular season. She earned NECC Player of the Week honors on Sept. 4.

Sarah Bengston (Bristol, Conn.) was selected to represent Elms on the Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team. The Blazers will open the postseason at Becker on Wednesday evening.
