Blazers Outlast Clark In OT

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Elms College Field Hockey team took on the Clark Cougars under the lights on Leary Field. It was a closely contested match as the Elms Blazers walked away with a 4-3 victory late in overtime.

The Elms (2-5) offense was powered by Senior Jeszenia McGuire (Brimfield,MA) who had two goals, and Freshman Ellie Serra (Palmer,MA) and Sophomore Carissa Ramirez (San Diego,CA) who each had one goal and an assist.

The Elms Blazers got off to a great start, scoring in just over two and a half minutes into the game. After the early goal the game slowed down a bit until about five minutes left in the first half when the Clark Cougars (4-2) evened the game with a goal. The tie however was short lived as the Blazers answered back in the 35thminute of the first half on a penalty corner and took the lead heading into the half.

After halftime, the Blazers assault on the net continued as they were able to score yet again and take a 3-1 lead. The Cougars attitude never changed and they never gave up, as they would eventually score two goals and even things a 3 before the end of regulation. The Blazers were able to cap off a hard fought victory with a late overtime goal by Jeszenia McGuire.

The Cougars offense was led by Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, MD) who had nine shots and two goals. The only other goal for Clark was made by Chase Collier (Libson, Maine).

The Elms offense was powered by Senior Jeszenia McGuire (Brimfield,MA) who had 2 goals, and Freshman Ellie Serra (Palmer,MA) and Sophomore Carissa Ramirez (San Diego,CA) who each had 1 goal and an assist.

The Cougars abused the net with an overwhelming 26 shots while the Blazers Made their shots count as they only had 6 total, with 4 finding the back of the net.

The Blazers next game will be at Rivier, on September 20th.

The Clark Cougars will host Johnson and Wales, on September 20th.
