Women's Volleyball Splits Dean Tri-Match

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches during a tri-match at Dean College Saturday afternoon. The Blazers downed the host Bulldogs, 3-0, in straight sets, and then fell to Maine-Fort Kent, 3-1, in their final match of the day. With the split, the Blazers improve to 11-8 on the season, matching the program's record for wins in a season

Match 1: Elms 3, Dean 0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-23)

In a three-set sweep of the host Bulldogs, junior Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, N.V.) paced the Blazers attack with a match-high 11 kills and six digs. Freshman Ayanna Meadows (Springfield, Mass.) snared a team-high 13 digs with six kills and two aces, while classmate Hannah Pichardo (South Glen Falls, N.Y.) added five kills with eight digs. Freshman Dakota Stewart (Victoria, Texas) dished out a match-high 25 assists with eight digs and a match-high five aces, and sophomore Hannah Adams (Deerfield, Mass.) chipped in 10 digs and three aces in the win.

 

Match 2: Maine-Fort Kent 3, Elms 1 (23-25, 25-17, 20-25, 17-25)

During a four-set battle with Maine-Fort Kent, freshman Hayley Castanos (Santa Ana, Calif.) led the Blazers offensively with a career-high 10 kills and a career-high nine digs. Redding added nine kills with two aces and two digs, while Pichardo logged six kills and eight digs. Adams snared 14 digs, and Meadows grabbed 12 digs. Stewart registered her 13th double-double of the season with a match-high 27 assists and 12 digs.

The Blazers will be back on the court when they host Mount Ida in non-conference action Monday at 7:00 p.m.
