Women's Volleyball Drops Pair At MCLA Tri-Match

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of five-set matches during a tri-match at Amsler Campus Center Saturday afternoon. The Blazers fell to Salem State, 3-2 (15-25, 25-17, 18-25, 26-24, 9-15), and then suffered a five-set defeat to the host Trailblazers, 3-2 (25-23, 14-25, 20-25, 25-19, 10-15).

Against the Vikings, freshman Hannah Pichardo (South Glen Falls, N.Y.) slammed a career-high 15 kills on 23 attacks for a .522 hitting percentage. Freshman Ayanna Meadows (Springfield, Mass.) served up a career-high six aces with nine kills and three blocks, while junior Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, N.V.) added eight kills, three digs and two blocks. Freshman Hayley Castanos (Santa Ana, Calif.) matched a career-high with six kills and seven digs. Freshman Dakota Stewart (Victoria, Texas) notched her eighth double-double of the season with 35 assists and 11 digs. Junior Caroline Locke (West Springfield, Mass.) grabbed a match-high 19 digs.

In a five-set battle with the host Trailblazers, Redding smashed a team-high 17 kills with 13 digs and two aces. Meadows recorded a career-high 13 kills with 18 digs, while Stewart logged her ninth double-double with a match-high 39 assists with 13 digs and five kills. Sophomore Hannah Adams (Deerfield, Mass.) added seven kills and 17 digs, while Pichardo nabbed 17 digs with six kills.

The Blazers will be back on the court with a non-conference road trip to Eastern Nazarene College for a match Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
