Track and Field Sets Seven School Records At Springfield Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Elms College track and field teams set seven new school records while competing at the Springfield College Invitational Saturday afternoon.

For the men's team, senior Trifon Bish (St. Catherine, Jamaica) broke his own mark in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.12 seconds, while winning the long jump and the triple jump events with marks of 7.53 (SR) and 14.35 meters, respectively. Bish soars from 14th to 3rd in the nation in the long jump event. Junior Jeremy Cruz (Perth Amboy, N.J.) post a new school best in the javelin with a distance of 37.28 meter, while setting a personal best in the 100 meter dash (16.97). Freshman Richie Hernandez (North Branford, Conn.) bested his previous school record in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:43.80. Junior Tony Luciani (Agawam, Mass.) logged a pair of personal bests in the 100 meter dash (13.57) and the 200 meter dash (27.66), while freshman Paul Ferraro (Walpole, Mass.) recorded a new personal best in the javelin with a distance of 23.53 meters. Junior Donald Whittle (Somers, Conn) finished third in the long jump (6.71m), while freshman Babba Jaden (Clarkston, Ga.) placed seventh in the triple jump (12.20m).

On the women's side, freshman Alizaya Clark (Springfield, Mass.) registered a pair of school records in the 100 meter dash (13.82) and the 200 meter dash (29.13). Freshman Emma Morton (Southwick, Mass.) notched a new school best in the 3000 meter run (12:32.56), along with a personal best in the 400 meter dash (1:20.40). Freshman Samantha Wegiel (Palmer, Mass.) delivered a new personal best in the 200 meter dash at 29.20 seconds, and junior Rachel Connell (Easthampton, Mass.) set a new personal record in the 100 meter dash (15.28). Junior Sarah Tatgenhorst (15.35; Winterport, Maine), sophomore Amanda Rotberg (16.28; Rowley, Mass.) and freshman Meghan Ballentine (15.87; Gardner, Mass.) recorded a personal bests in the 100 meter dash. Rotberg (34.27) and junior Latisha Rocke (32.08; Amherst, Mass.) logged personal bests in the 200 meter dash, and junior Trisha Doret (Boston, Mass.) posted a personal best in the 400 meter dash (1:19.21).

The Blazers will be back in action at the Regis College Pride Classic on Sunday, April 30th.
