Shea's OT Header Lifts Women's Soccer Over New England College

HENNIKER, N.H.—A header goal by Kelsea Shea in overtime proved to be the difference as the Elms College Blazers downed the Pilgrims of New England College 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Elms improves to 3-2, while the loss drops NEC to 0-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The two teams played a scoreless first half with NEC outshooting their guests, 9-6, despite Elms putting two shots on net to NEC's one.

The second half continued in similar fashion as neither team scored in regulation. Second half shots again favored NEC, 6-4.

Elms held a 2-1 advantage in shots in the early minutes of overtime. In the 97thminute, the Blazers were awarded two corner kicks within seconds of each other. On the second one, Jacqueline Soucia's feed found the head of Kelsey Shea six yards out in the middle of the box. Shea headed it to the far left corner, and the ball slowly rolled in for the win.

GOALKEEPERS

NEC netminder Kayla Pugliese (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) tallied five saves in net for the Pilgrims, while Elms' Rebecca Molin had two saves.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Pilgrims continue their four-game home stand on Tuesday when they host Gordon College at 7:00 p.m. NEC will open North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. against Castleton.
