Men’s Volleyball Defeats Acradia in Straight Sets

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College men's volleyball team picked up a straight set victory over Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon at Picknelly Arena. The Blazers won with set scores of (25-20, 25-29, and 25-22)

Arcadia tallied four-straight points to jump out to a 7-3 lead. However, Elms would turn momentum around with six-straight points to go ahead 11-9. Both squad's traded points the rest of the way, but the Knights were unable to regain the lead. A kill by Luis Martinez (Bayamon, P.R.) from a Carlos Mercado (Barranquitas, P.R.) assist gave the opening set to the Blazers.

Elms took an early lead in the second set, but the Knights answered with a 3-0 run to tie the game at 8-8. The Knights would take their first lead later in the set following a kill, 16-15. However, Elms immediately answered with a 7-1 run to gain separation from Arcadia. Elms went on to win the middle set, 25-19.

Elms closed things out with a 25-22 victory in the final set. The Knights put together four-straight points to take a 10-8 lead, but consecutive kills from Diego Hernandez (San Juan, P.R.) and Martinez put the home side back in front 14-12. Arcadia put together a couple late runs, but the Blazers would not be denied. Another kill from Hernandez put the final set and the match away.

Elms is back on the court Wednesday 3/4 when they host St. John Fisher at 7PM.
