Men’s Volleyball Opens up NECC Play with Sweep of Nichols

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College men's volleyball team opened up New England Collegiate Conference play on Thursday night with a (3-0) sweep of Nichols College at Picknelly Arena. The Blazers won with set scores of (25-9, 25-14, and 25-14). Elms improves their record to 7-7 overall and is 1-0 in league play.

The Blazers got off to a fast start and jumped all over the Bison. Elms built up a 14-7 lead after a kill from Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R.) off an assist from Carlos Mercado (Barranquitas, P.R.). The home team would continue to dominate and took the opening set 25-9.

Elms continued to control the match in the second set. The Blazers led from start to finish taking the set 25-14 and a 2-0 lead. The third and final set saw back and forth scoring with neither team able pull away. The Blazers would go on a 8-0 run and take control of the set, and finish the 3-0 sweep.

Elms held the Bison to a -.050 hitting percentage while hitting .439 in the match.

The Blazers are back on the court Saturday 2/22 when they host Johnson state at 3PM and Rivier University at 7PM in a tri-match at Picknelly Arena.
