Three Men’s Volleyball Players Named All-NECC
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College freshman outside hitter Jeff Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.) was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Year and First Team All-NECC and was one of three Blazers named all-conference as announced by the league on Monday.
Vautrin hit at a .337 clip with a team-high 148 kills on 291 swings with just 50 errors to help Elms to a 7-5 mark in conference action during the 2013 season. He added a team-high 18 service aces and 108 total digs averaging 2.30 per set in league play and becomes the fourth Blazers' men's volleyball player to be named NECC Rookie of the Year since the inaugural season in 2009.
Elms' senior outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) and junior middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) were each named Honorable Mention All-NECC.
Cameron totaled 105 kills in 10 NECC matches during the season, averaging 2.50 per set. He hit .271 against league opponents and was also second on the team in digs with 101 but registered a team-high 2.40 digs per set average. He also served up 11 aces during the campaign.
Rainey played all 12 league matches this season and was second the team with 119 kills and a 2.53 kills per set average. Rainey hit at a team-best .424 clip, collected 92 digs (1.96 per set) and was second on the team with 20 total blocks (3 solo, 17 assisted).
