Men's Soccer Slips at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's soccer team broke its scoring drought in a big way, cruising to a 5-0 win over Elms on Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears, who had not scored a goal since September 19 against Wesleyan (despite managing to go 0-1-2 during the stretch) improved to 3-2-2 on the season. The Blazers fall to 2-8-0 on the year with the loss.

How It Happened

  • Bowdoin wasted little time as Cedric Charlier found the back of the net just 1:17 into the contest. Off a corner kick, Sam Ward played a service into the box that found the head of Moctar Niang. The bouncing ball found the foot of Charlier, who banged it home for an early Polar Bear lead.
  • Bowdoin continued to control the pace of play and converted again in the ninth minute as Hunter Miller put home a Kiefer Solarte feed to double the lead.
  • Levi Morant added a goal in the 27th minute from Charlier to give the Polar Bears a 3-0 lead at intermission
  • Elms' best chance of the contest came in the 40th minute when CJ Dabkowski ripped a shot on goal following a corner kick. Bowdoin's Stevie Van Siclen was up to the task, however, preserving the shutout
  • Sophomores Wilson MacMillan and Jai Kawale both notched their first career goals in the second half for Bowdoin
  • Christian Kostka made five saves (allowing three goals) in the opening half for Elms before giving way to Nicholson Pennant in the second period. Pennant stopped four shots and permitted two goals
  • Van Siclen made one save in the first 82:10 of play before giving way to Kyle Gurtowski, who was not tested over the final 7:50
