Baseball Lose Home Opener to Wentworth

HOLYOKE, Mass. - The Elms College Baseball team hosted Wentworth Institute of Technology for a non-conference game on Thursday afternoon at Mackenzie Staidum.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 6 | Wentworth Institute of Technology 8
Records: Blazers 5-8, 0-0 (GNAC) | Leopards 4-10, 0-0 (CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game would start with the first two innings being scoreless with senior pitcher/outfielder Trevor Nohilly (Bristol, Conn.) taking the mound to start for the Blazers, pitching three scoreless innings and four strikeouts in five innings. Then at the top of the third inning, Wentworth would get on the board first after scoring three runs. However, Elms would answer back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. The first run would occur after first year infielder/pitcher Brycen Diaz (Andrews, Texas.) would fly out to center field and would bring graduate student infielder AJ Cook (Mendon, Mass.) in to score. Then sophomore infielder Jacob Perez (Manchester, Conn.) would make a double, which allowed for both senior outfielders Camron Watkins (East Haddam, Conn.) and George Chaya Jr. (Methuen, Mass.) to score. With three more runs made by the Leopards in the top of the fourth, the Blazers would capitalize during the bottom of the fourth, as Cook would hit a double, which set up senior infielder Felix Gutierrez (Holyoke, Mass.) to run home. After Chaya's single, Waltkins would fly out, allowing Cook to score. In the top of the sixth, Nohilly would be relieved on the hill by senior Devin Kazarian (Westerly, R.I.), where he would pitch two innings with two strikeouts, followed by graduate student pitcher Kyle Sebastyanski (Auburn, Mass.), also pitching two innings and a strikeout. Unfortunately, Elms would go four innings without scoring a run, but in the bottom of the ninth, Diaz would be able to score after junior pitcher/infielder Nason Busca (Windsor, Conn.) was walked. Even through their efforts offensively, Wentworth would take home the win, 8-6.
