Baseball Loses a Tough Game to Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Elms College Baseball team traveled to Westfield State University for a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon.

BASICS
Score:
Elms College 7 | Westfield State University 18
Records:
Blazers 5-7, 0-0 (GNAC) | Owls 8-2, 0-0 (MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers would start the game with loading the bases, following three-straight walks but Elms would be unable to capitalize those efforts. Junior pitcher Justin Saad (Waterford, Conn.) would start on the mound for Elms, pitching the first two innings of the game, with the Owls starting off strong with two runs in the bottom half of the first inning. However, during the top of the second inning graduate student infielder AJ Cook (Mendon, Mass.) would flied out to center field, which caused senior catcher Nick Kreuzuer (Suffield, Conn.) to advance to third and sophomore pitcher/utility player Andrew Ciaglo (Hadley, Mass.) would score. Unfortunately, Elms would go the third through the fifth inning without a score. In the bottom of the third inning, first year pitcher/infielder Brycen Diaz (Andrews, Texas) would come into the game to relieve Saad, where he would pitch two innings with two strikeouts, followed by an inning by sophomore Luke Guyer (East Granby, Conn) throwing a strikeout, and a final inning by Ciaglo. But then in the sixth inning, the Blazers would put on the heat. After junior pitcher/outfielder Nason Busca (Windsor, Conn.) would get walked, first year catcher Alex Baeta (Bellingham, Mass.) would score. Following, Cook would be hit by the pitch, which caused Ciaglo to score. Then, sophomore infielder Jacob Perez (Manchester, Conn.) would advance to first after an error made by Westfield, this caused Kreuzer to score. After Elms got their second out of the inning, both Perez and Cook would score for the Blazers, following a single by sophomore infielder/pitcher Jayden Maynard (Enfield, Conn.). The seventh inning would go scoreless. Unfortunately, Elms would fall short even with the 6 runs in the sixth inning but Westfield would take home the win 18-7.
