French, Pickett Earn NECC Weekly Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College senior men's basketball player Andre French (Torrington, Conn.) was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week and sophomore women's basketball player JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) earned rookie of the week honors as announced by the league office on Monday.

French earned his third NECC Player of the Week award after leading the top-seeded Blazers to their eighth overall conference tournament title (fourth in the NECC in the last five season) and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship for the seventh time in the last nine years. French, who was named the tournament MVP, averaged 24 points per game netting 21 in an 80-78 win over Mitchell College and 27 in a 91-78 win over Regis to help Elms capture the NECC crown.

Pickett was named NECC Rookie of the week for the second time this season after helping the second-seeded Blazers to their second straight NECC tournament title game in as many seasons. Pickett averaged 7.3 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game during Elms’ runner up finish in the NECC postseason. Pickett, who earned all-tournament honors, scored 11 points against Becker College and posted 13 rebounds against Mitchell College to highlight her efforts in the two categories.
