Cameron, Castro and Morse Garner NECC Weekly Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College junior and freshman men’s volleyball players Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) and Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) and senior baseball player Donny Morse (Alfred, Maine) earned New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) weekly honors as announced by league on Monday.

Cameron was named NECC Player of the Week in men’s volleyball after being named the 2012 NECC Championship tournament most valuable player (MVP). Cameron, who smashed a total of 26 kills, served up three aces, totaled 15 digs and assisted on three blocks, helped the second-seed Blazers top No. 3 Southern Vermont College, 3-1 in the semifinals and No. 1 Endicott College, 3-1 in the title match and punch Elms’ ticket to the inaugural NCAA Division III Championship for men’s volleyball. This is Cameron’s second player of the week award.

Castro earned his third NECC Rookie of the Week accolade after downing 17 kills, registering 14 digs and assisting on nine blocks during the Blazers NECC title run. Castro added three service aces and six assists during Elms’ two-match week.  

On the baseball diamond, Morse earned his first NECC Player of the Week award after helping the Blazers to a 4-1 week in which he went 12 for 19 with four doubles, six RBI, and six runs scored. In a 6-5 win over Mitchell, the senior was 2 for 3 with a walk, a double, two RBI and a scored run. Morse followed with a 1 for 2 effort with two runs driven in during a 5-4 victory over the Mariners. In the third game of the three-game set, Morse connected for four hits and scored a trio of runs.
