Cross Country Teams Compete at Western New England University Invitational
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Elms College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Western New England University Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mass.
On the men's side, Westfield State University led the 18 scoring teams with a combined total of 37 points, followed by Lyndon State College (42) and Clark University (105).
Lyndon State's Kyle Powers won the men's 8-kilometer race with a time of 26:01 while the Owls' Ben Parzich followed with a time of 26:07.
Elms' sophomore Adam Kuzdzal (Chicopee, Mass.) clocked a team-best time of 33:03, followed by freshman Joey Sirois (South Easton, Mass.) who registered a mark of 35:11. Freshman Joshua Rolon (Chicopee, Mass.) added a time of 35:50 for the Blazers.
On the women's side Salve Regina University (55) earned top team honors, followed by Westfield State (80) and Roger Williams University (136) rounding out the top three in the 22 scoring team field. Elms finished 14th with 384 points.
Endicott College's Erin Haynes earned top individual honors with a 5-kilometer winning time of 19:13.
The Blazers' women's squad was led by senior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) who clocked a time of 21:36 which ranks fifth best on the program's top 10 list for any 5-kilometer course.
Junior Rachel Lehouillier (Belchertown, Mass.) followed with a time of 22:44, freshman Samantha White (Tolland, Mass.) notched a time of 23:27, junior Shirley Ryan (Brimfield, Mass.) added a time of 24:09, sophomore Emma Bernard (Springfield, Mass.) tabbed a mark of 24:23, senior Gabrielle Calvanese (Agawam, Mass.) secured a time of 26:03, junior Maddie Boehm (Sutton, Mass.) ran to a time of 30:23 and senior Stephanie Konstantinidis (Holyoke, Mass.) turned in a time of 32:13.
Both teams return to action on Saturday, October 26 at the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship.
