DeGrazia Named GNAC Swimmer of the Year

BOSTON, Mass. - Elms College sophomore swimmer Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) was named the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Swimmer of the Year as announced by the organization on Saturday.

At the 2011-12 GNAC Championships, DeGrazia, who notched a new GNAC, Simmons pool and Elms school record in the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.63), and came in second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.53 added a GNAC and Elms school record in the 1000-yard freestyle, swimming to a first place time of 11:24.39 and added a second place finish in the 50-yard backstroke (30.15) during the two-day event.

DeGrazia followed her GNAC performance with a tremendous effor at the season-ending New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships by clocking a new school record in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:40.14, gliding to a new school mark in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:02.53) to place fifth in the event, and placed seventh in the 500-yard freestyle with a new school record time of 5:22.33. DeGrazia's opening 200-yard freestyle leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay also established a new school mark at 1:58.80 helping the Blazers to the best team finish (eighth) out of all GNAC teams.
