Lacrosse Drops Season Opener at Umass Dartmouth
Dartmouth, MA – The Elms College women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener (12-5) at Umass Dartmouth on Friday afternoon.
The Blazers opened up the scoring at the 26:28 mark when Haley Richard (Monson, MA) found the back of the net off a feed from Arianna Callahan (West Springfield, MA). After a goal from the Corsairs tied thing up, Elms would go ahead after Taylor Borla (Southington, CT) scored her first collegiate goal from a Richard's assist.
The hosts overcame the early (2-1) deficit. Umass scored five straight over an 18-minute stretch to help grab a (7-2) cushion at the break. The visiting Blazers closed back to within three on tallies from Elese Ciarcia (Glastonbury, CT) and Richard in the opening 13:12 after intermission. Umass answered with a three-goal outburst, extending the hosts' edge to six (10-4) with nine minutes remaining in the match. Richard's free position conversion with 7:54 proved to be the last goal of the day for Elms. The Corsairs added two more goals and took the season opener (12-5)
Richard finished with a hat trick and a helper in the setback for the Blazers, Callahan pitched in with two assists.
Elms is back in action on Wednesday 3/4 at 5PM when they travel to Albertus Magnus College.
