Killion, Zisk Earn 2012 All-NECC Honors in Softball

Elms College senior outfielder Jennifer Killion (Cambridge, Mass.) was named Second Team All-New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), while sophomore third baseman Hayley Zisk (Baldwinville, Mass.) was named Honorable Mention All-NECC as announced by the league office on Monday.

The fourth-seeded Elms College softball team suffered a 6-1 loss to top-seed Lesley University and a 9-3 loss to No. 2 Mitchell College in double-elimination, semifinal action of the 2012 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship tournament on Friday afternoon at Wellesley College.

Elms College junior catcher Sarah Buckley (Wilbraham, Mass.) drove in senior right fielder Jennifer Killion (Cambridge, Mass.) in the bottom of the fourth inning with what proved to be the game-winning run as the fourth-seeded Blazers outlasted No. 5 Bay Path College, 1-0 in Wednesday afternoon’s New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship tournament quarter final game at Cheryl R. Condon Field.

The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship First Round game between No. 5 Bay Path College and No. 4 Elms College scheduled for Tuesday, May 1 has been postponed to Wednesday, May 2 due to inclement weather. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Cheryl R. Condon Field on Wednesday.

Condon Field.

Elms College freshman left fielder Colleen Flaherty (Stoughton, Mass.) went 3 for 4 with two runs scored in game two, but Bay Path College used a walk-off home run by Mercedes Griffith (Malden, Mass.) in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two to help lift the Wildcats to wins of 6-0 and 7-6 to complete a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) softball double-header sweep of the Blazers on Wednesday afternoon in Londmeadow, Mass.

Elms College sophomore first baseman Ally Witaszek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) picked up an infield single and then scored from first on a misplay by Anna Maria College in the bottom of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie and give the Blazers a 4-3 victory over the AMCATS in Tuesday afternoon’s non-conference softball game at Cheryl R. Condon Field.
