Rainey Named NECC Player of the Year
NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College senior middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Year and first team all-conference in the sport of men's volleyball as announced by the league office on Monday.
Rainey, who was named NECC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-NECC in 2011, earned his third first team selection this season. He was named First Team All-NECC as a sophomore in 2012 and Honorable Mention All-NECC in 2013 before being named the NECC Player of the Year this season. In 12 conference matches, Rainey averaged 4.93 kills per set and hit .321 downing 202 total kills. He added nine service aces and 104 digs to go along with 20 blocks. Rainey, who is Elms' all-time leader in kills and first player in program history to reach 1,000 kills, led the NECC in both kills and kills per set. Rainey downed double-digit kills in 10 of the 12 league contests this season including a single-match career-high 29 in a 3-2 victory over Southern Vermont College on March 8. He also recorded double-digit digs in six of the 12 league matches including 14 in a 3-1 win over Lesley University on March 22.
