Baseball Completes Series Sweep at Daniel Webster

NASHUA, N.H. – Back-to-back two-out RBI singles from Jordan Zima (Berlin, Conn.) and Michael Bombard (Chicopee, Mass.) broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the ninth and helped send Elms past host Daniel Webster 6-4 in a NECC matchup Sunday afternoon at Harvey Woods Field.

The win pushed the Blazers back over .500 on the season (15-14) as they finished their NECC slate at 10-8 and took the rubber game of a three-game weekend set. DWC dropped to 7-16 overall (2-12 NECC).

Chris Martin (Manchester, N.H.) knocked in two runs for DWC with a two-run triple in the sixth, while Dan Quinn (Auburn, N.H.) was 3 for 5 and Gabe Bovenzi (Shirley, N.Y.) went 3 for 4 knocking in a run.

Bombard finished with a pair of RBI for Elms, while Stephen Harrison (Southbury, Conn.) added two hits including a two-run double in the eighth.

Cody Lemieux (Torrington, Conn.) earned the win (2-1) going eight full innings, allowing four earned runs on 12 hits, striking out two. Brian Langdon (Beacon Falls, Conn.) added his fifth save allowing one hit in the ninth.

Nick Goodin (Dracut, Mass.) took the loss (0-2) in relief of Eagle starter Derek Dolan (Lowell, Mass.), who allowed three earned runs on eight hits, striking out three over eight full.

Scoreless after five, Elms forged ahead on a Brady Forrest (Hampden, Mass.) RBI single scoring Vasquez, who reached on an error.

DWC took the lead in the sixth on Martin's three-bagger but Elms followed with a three spot in the top of the eighth with a Bombard RBI fielder's choice and Harrison's key double to right center.

DWC tied it in the bottom of the frame as Quinn led off with a double, Kelvin Rodriguez (Nashua) singled, Mike Pelletier (Pelham, N.H.) picked up a RBI on a ground out and Bovenzi singled home Rodriguez.

After two quick outs to start the Elms ninth, both Forrest and Tim Gelzinas (N. Dighton, Mass.) were nicked and Forrest would score on Zima's single. Bombard followed to score Gelzinas.

Quinn collected his third hit of the day to put the tying run at the plate with two down in the bottom of the frame, but Langdon induced a groundout to preserve the win.

The Eagles are off until next Saturday as they visit Southern Vermont for a NECC doubleheader and conclude the series on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Elms visits Clark on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
