CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College freshman Michael Bombard (Chicopee, Mass.) has been chosen as the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Baseball Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Monday morning. This is Bombard first Rookie of the Week award, and the first since Tim Gelzinis (North Dighton, Mass.) took home the award on April 14, 2014.

Bombard was the Blazers leading hitter, batting .435 from the dish during a 4-2 week for Elms. Bombard registered a hit in every game for the Blazers, including a 3-for-4 performance with three runs scored against Becker. He recorded an RBI in all game but one, while driving in three runs for Elms during a 6-4 win at Southern Vermont. For the week, Bombard was 10-for-23 with three extra-base hits, eight RBIs, five runs scored, and a stolen base. Bombard also registered his first collegiate victory on the mound in a 6-4 win over Southern Vermont. He allowed two runs on eight hits with a career-high nine strikeouts in six innings of work.

Bombard and the Blazers will return to the diamond for a NECC home doubleheader against Newbury College at MacKenzie Stadium Thursday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
