Blazer Volleyball Tops Lesley, Salem State In Tri-Match

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball team picked up its 10th win of the 2018 on Saturday after taking a 3-1 New England Collegiate Conference win against Lesley in the morning and a 3-0 sweep over Salem State in a non-conference showdown to close the tri-match.

The Blazers (10-3, 2-0 NECC) dropped the first set against Lesley 25-22 before rattling off six straight set victories to finish the day. Elms won 22-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-16 over the Lynx to move to 2-0 in league play. Dakota Stewart (Victoria, Texas) had a busy day against the Lynx (1-10, 0-2 NECC), racking up 24 assists, 26 digs and six kills without an error on 12 attempts (.500). Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished with a team-high 11 kills and added 18 digs and seven aces, while Ayanna Meadows (Springfield, Mass.) added eight kills and a dozen digs.

Maile Counts and Cassidy Wygonik each tallied 10 kills and 17 digs for Lesley. The Blazers held an 18-6 advantage at the service line and narrowly out-hit the Lynx, .117-.115.

Elms finished the day with a clean sweep of Salem State (10-5). Redding tallied another double-double against the Vikings, finishing with 13 kills and 10 digs. Rachel Magnuson added nine kills on a .571 hitting percentage for the Blazers and Stewart finished with 30 assists and 10 digs.

Emily Hennessy led the Vikings with seven kills while Samantha Chaisson racked up 26 digs and Morgan Adams had 23 assists.

Elms hit .239 in the match while Salem State swung at a .130 clip. The Blazers had another strong serving performance, racking up 13 aces, including four from Meadows.

All three teams will return to action on Tuesday. The Blazers resume NECC play as Becker visits Picknelly Arena while Lesley will host Bay Path and Salem State will face Bowdoin.
