Elms Volleyball Sweeps SUNY Cobleskill To Open Blazer Invitational

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball team started the Blazer Invitational and the 2018 season with a straight-set win over SUNY Cobleskill on Friday night in Picknelly Arena, winning 25-12, 25-21, 26-24 over the Tigers.

Elms (1-0) hit .250 in the convincing first set win but cooled off throughout the rest of the match, hitting .081 in the second set and .029 in the third en route to victory.

Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, Nev.) led the Blazer attack with seven kills while freshman Aimee Jolicoeur (Hampden, Mass.) added five kills and a .300 hitting percentage in her Blazer debut. Dakota Stewart (Victoria, Texas) tallied 12 assists and Caroline Locke (West Springfield, Mass.) finished with a team-high nine digs.

Karyn Knaul (Central Square, N.Y.) had a match-high eight kills for the Tigers (0-1) with just two errors and a .545 hitting percentage. Mackenzie Holbert (Sauquoit, N.Y.) had 17 assists and Mikayla Catherman (Marcellus, N.Y.) finished with a game-high 16 digs.

Elms hit .099 for the match and held SUNY Cobleskill to a .020 clip. The Blazers also held an 8-7 advantage in service aces while the Tigers out-dug Elms 47-38.

The two teams will meet once again on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m., as the Blazer Invitational continues. SUNY Cobleskill will then face Albertus Magnus at 1:00 p.m. before Elms hosts AMC to wrap up the tournament at 3:00 p.m.
