Golden Bears Deal Blazers First Loss

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Elms College women's volleyball suffered its first loss of the 2018 season on Tuesday night as Western New England took down the Blazers 3-1 in Picknelly Arena.

Elms (6-1) won the first set 25-17 before the Golden Bears (1-7) battled back to win the next three sets 25-20; 25-13; 25-20.

Danielle Redding (Las Vegas) led Elms with 15 kills and a .281 hitting percentage. Hannah Adams (Deerfield, Mass.) added 10 kills for the Blazers and Ayanna Meadows (Springfield, Mass.) finished one kill shy of a double-double, collecting nine kills and 11 digs. Dakota Stewart (Victoria, Texas) tallied 28 kills and 13 digs for Elms and Kianna Lozada (Bayamon, P.R.) finished with a team-best 14 digs.

The Golden Bears were led by a 14-kill, 14-dig performance from Ashley Matthews (Salem, N.H.) while Cassandra Holmes (Ellington, Conn.) added 12 kills and seven digs. Jenna McCormack (Nashua, N.H.) racked up 45 assists and led Western New England to a .237 hitting percentage.

Elms hit .177 in the contest and was out-dug 64-55. WNE also finished with 15 aces while the Blazers tallied four.

Elms returns to action at UMass.-Dartmouth on Sept. 13 to kick off a four-match road trip. Western New England will host Framingham State on Sept. 13.
