WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Elms College women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss to host Westfield State in a non-conference match at Alumni Field Wednesday night. The Blazers dip to 8-4 on the season, while the Owls improve to 4-4-2 overall.

In the 17th minute of play, the Owls cracked the scoreboard as freshman Caitlyn Shean (Agawam, Mass.) played a through ball from the right side of the box, finding sophomore Juliana Templeman (East Longmeadow, Mass.) for a finish into the left corner, staking Westfield State to a 1-0 lead. The Owls held the 1-0 lead throughout the remainder of the first half.

The Blazers found the equalizer just over five minutes into the second half as senior Jacqueline Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) had a shot attempt blocked, but classmate Brie Voight (Springfield, Mass.) dished the loose ball to senior Angelina Estrada (Springfield, Mass.), who beat Owls junior Natalia Falcone (Sutton, Mass.) and evened the match at 1-1.

In the 62nd minute, the Owls regained control as senior Rene Hamel (Monson, Mass.) fired a loose ball into the left corner, putting Westfield State ahead 2-1. With 17:13 to play, the Owls added an insurance goal as Elms sophomore keeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) denied an attempt from sophomore Bella Eduardo (Springfield, Mass.), but the rebound landed at the feet of Templeman, who knocked a shot into the empty net, giving the Owls a 3-1 advantage.

The Owls controlled the shot column, 16-7, during the contest. Molin made four saves, while Falcone didn't record a save in the win.

The Blazers will look to return to the win column when they host Mitchell College in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) match Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Westfield State hosts Massachusetts Maritime Academy in MASCAC action Friday at 7:00 p.m.
