GORHAM, Maine  – Seniors Angelina Estrada (Springfield, Mass.) and Mackenzie LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass.) each scored within the opening 16 minutes of the game to lead the Elms College Blazers to a 2-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

With the win, Elms improves to 1-1 on the season. Southern Maine, which won its season opener, evens out its record at 1-1.

Estrada converted an assist from LaRochelle in the ninth minute to give the Blazers and early lead over the Huskies.  LaRochelle then doubled the Elms' advantage in the 16th minute with an unassisted goal.  LaRochelle collected a loose ball over the top of the Huskies' midfield and then took a pair of touches, beating an onrushing Southern Maine junior goalkeeper Taylor Canastra (Fairhaven, Mass.) to the inside for a 2-0 lead.

Canastra faced consistent pressure from the Blazers in both halves, making 11 saves in the game.  Elms tallied 18 shots (13 on net) for an 18-5 advantage, and had 12 corners kicks.  Sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) made three saves, all in the second half to earn the shut out.

The Blazers will look to remain in the win column when they host Eastern Connecticut State University in non-conference action at Leary Field Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. Southern Maine returns to action at home against UMaine Farmington (4:00 p.m.).
