HENNIKER, N.H. – The Elms College women's soccer team was outlasted by Montclair State, 1-0, during the opening day of the New England College Invitational, hosted by New England College Saturday afternoon at Don Melander Field. The Blazers dip to 2-2 on the season, while the Red Hawks improved to 1-0-2.

Montclair State tested the Blazers early in the first half, but Elms freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) denied four shots in the opening 18 minutes to preserve a scoreless tie. Elms senior Mackenzie LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass.) had a chance in the 29th minute but was denied by Montclair State junior Molly Barrow (Ramsey, N.J.). The Red Hawks threatened late in the half, but Molin made four more saves to send the squads into the half tied at 0-0.

Elms junior Gigi Thibault (South Hadley, Mass.) and LaRochelle gave Elms attempts early in the second half, but Barrow denied both shots. In the 62nd minute of action, Molin made a save on a shot from junior Michaela Knoblock (South Brunswick, N.J.), but Montclair State freshman Melanie Cunha (Warren, N.J.) put back the rebound into the top right corner, giving the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead. Barrow rejected an attempt from Elms senior Jacqueline Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) on a corner kick attempt, and then denied an attempt from LaRochelle in the final minutes to secure the 1-0 win for Montclair State.

The Red Hawks controlled the shot column, 28-6, during the contest. Molin matched a career-high with 11 saves, while Barrow made five saves in the win.
