Late Goal Lifts Women's Soccer Over Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's soccer team lost 2-1 to visiting Elms College on Saturday evening at Alumni Field in Leicester. The Blazers of Elms improve to 8-3 and 2-1 in the NECC while the Hawks of Becker fall to 6-5 and 2-1 in conference play.

Elms took the lead in the 17th minute when senior forward Brie Voight (Springfield, Mass. / Springfield Central) scored her fourth goal of the season, assisted by senior midfielder Mackenzie LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee Comprehensive) as the Blazers went up 1-0.

Becker bounced back in the 24th minute when sophomore defender Kyra Teixeira (Old Lyme, Conn. / Lyme Old Lyme) scored her third goal of the season to knot it at 1-1. That remained the score going into halftime.

The eventual game-winner came in the 85th minute when Voight broke free and found the back of the net. The score of 2-1 held up over the final minutes.

Becker junior goalkeeper Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee) finished with seven stops. Elms sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn. / Northwest Catholic) recorded one save in net to pick up the win. The Blazers outshot the Hawks, 17-3.  

Elms travels to Westfield State for a non-conference contest on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Becker is back on the field on Wednesday when they travel to Rhode Island College for a 6:00 p.m. match.
