MCLA Edges Baseball, 4-2

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Elms College freshman shortstop Nolan Medeiros (Taunton, Mass.) was 1 for 4 with an RBI, but MCLA used a three-run fourth inning to help lift the Trailblazers to a 4-2 victory in Wednesday's non-conference baseball game at Zavattaro Complex in North Adams, Mass.

With the loss, Elms finishes its regular seasons 19-17 overall, while MCLA concludes its season 5-26 overall.

In the first, Elms took a 1-0 lead when freshman left fielder Dan McCormack (Shelton, Conn.) belted a leadoff triple and then scored on wild pitch to give the Blazers the early lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, MCLA found a rhythm as Cody Weaver (Highland, N.Y.) drove in a pair of runs on a base hit before Sean Coyle (Middleboro, Mass.) followed with an RBI single of his own to give the Trailblazers a 3-1 advantage.

A one-out double off the bat of Blazers' freshman third baseman Brian Langdon (Beacon Falls, Conn.) followed by a run-scoring single by Medeiros allowed Langdon to cross the dish with Elms' second run of the game and bring the score to 3-2 in favor of MCLA.

The Trailblazers then used a Rory Slattery (Pittsfield, Mass.) RBI single to add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Tyler Benoit (North Adams, Mass.) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out six batters in 8.0 innings to earn the win and move to 1-8 on the season. Robert Jutras (Readsboro, Vt.) tallied the save pitching the ninth frame and striking out a batter.

Weaver finished with two RBI to highlight the Trailblazers' efforts on offense, while Elms' sophomore right fielder Brady Forrest (Hampden, Mass.) was 2 for 4 at the plate and joined Medeiros with a stolen base.

Sophomore starter Geoffrey Frost (Ludlow, Mass.) allowed just one hit through three innings for the Blazers and earned a no-decision.

Freshman reliever Bryan Leonard (Vernon, Conn.) suffered the loss allowing three runs. Junior Curtis LeBeau (Auburn, Mass.), sophomore Sean Sinnott (Granby, Conn.), freshman Kyle Bartlett (Huntington, Mass.) and freshman Andrew Sadowski (Northampton, Mass.) each tossed a frame of scoreless relief.

Sinnott recorded Elms' lone strikeout on the hill.
