Baseball Falls at Daniel Webster College, 11-1

NASHUA, N.H. – The Elms College baseball team fell to Daniel Webster College, 11-1 in Sunday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) contest at Eagle Field in Nashua, N.H.

With the win Daniel Webster improves to 23-9 on the season, 15-3 in conference action and secures the top seed in the 2013 NECC Championship tournament. Elms moves to 19-16 on the season, 11-7 in NECC play and secures the third seed in postseason play.

The tournament is a four-team, double elimination format. The Eagles will host No. 4 Becker College (11-23) on Friday, May 3 and No. 2 Mitchell College (21-11-1) will take on the third-seeded Blazers.

Elms will travel to MCLA on Wednesday, May 1 for non-league action to conclude its regular season at 4:00 p.m.

In Sunday's contest, Daniel Webster plated six runs in the bottom of the second inning highlighted by RBI singles from Rich Lizotte (West Warwick, R.I.), Erick Bourdeau (Alton Bay, N.H.), Devin DeCarteret (Pelham, N.H.) and Josh Chasse (Haverhill, Mass.), as well as a sacrifice fly by Darrick Marstaller (Spofford, N.H.).

The Eagles added a run in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the eighth to stake an 11-0 cushion before Elms broke through with a run in the top of the ninth when freshman Derron Simpson (Hempstead, N.Y.) connected for a pinch-hit RBI fielder's choice.

Chasse finished the game 3 for 5 at the plate, while Lizotte, Bourdeau, DeCarteret, Joe Morin (Pelham, N.H.), Tyler Bonin (Litchfield, N.H.) and Kyle Brigham (Hudson, N.H.) who registered a triple, each had two hits in the winning effort.

Greg Dubela (Stratham, N.H.) pitched 8.0 innings to earn the win and improve to 7-0 on the hill. He allowed no runs and scattered five hits. Connor Milliken (Dayville, Conn.) allowed the one run and scattered two hits in one frame of relief.

Elms' freshman starter Thomas Weldon (Springfield, Mass.) suffered the loss and moves to 3-3 on the season. He allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits in two frames.

Senior center fielder Stephen Fisher (West Boylston, Mass.) was 2 for 3 in the loss for Elms.
