Jackson Records 20 Rebounds in Conference Win Over Lasers

CHICOPEE, MA - Women's Basketball secures a conference win on Tuesday night in Picknelly Arena over the Lasell University Lasers.

How it Happened

The Women Blazers opened up the first quarter with a lead 20-13 over the Lasell University Lasers. Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull,CT) put up 9 points including going 2-3 from beyond the arc, followed by Talia Uribe (South Hadley, MA) who added 5 points to the board and went 3-3 from the foul line. The Lightning crashed the boards and out rebounded the Lasers 13-9 in the first quarter alone.

In the second half Elms continued to controll the game and went on to add another 18 points over the Lasers 12. Both teams were unable to get a basket outside the arc, but the Blazers were successfull from evrywhere else inside it. In the first two quarters the Blazers went on to attain a FG Percentage of 41.2%, 3PT-Line percentage of 33.3% and 72.7% from the foul line. The Lasers trailed behind with percentages of 35.5% FG, 0% from the 3Pt-Line and 60% from the free throw line. The Lightning held a generous lead of 38-25 at the half.

In the third quarter the Lasers were able to knock down 22 points matching the Blazers 22, keeping the point differencial the same. To start off the second half Kayla Jackson had already attained 12 boards from the first for the Blazers, adding 3 more from the third quarter. The Lightning still hold onto the lead of 60-47 over Lasell heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

In the final quarter both teams put up 19 points and went 100% from the free throw line with the Lightning knocking down 3-3 and the Blazers going 4-4. Rahmia Johnston was able to cash in one more three pointer in for the game making it her third of the night totaling up 24 points for the junior gaurd. Kayla Jackson recording a final 5 boards boosted her to 20 rebounds against the Lasers as well as cashing in 14 points granting the freshman from Saugus, MA a double double in the match. Even with the Lasers knocking down the same amount of points this quarter the Blazers had a comfortable lead from the half they secured the conference win, 79-66 for the final.
