SPRINGFIELD, MA – Elms College junior runner
Alycia Dabrowski (Chicopee, MA) and freshman
Brendan Warren (Arlington, MA) were the top
individual finishers for the Blazers in Saturday morning’s
2009 Western New England College (WNEC) cross country
invitational.
Castleton State College’s Margaret Klein (Castleton,
VT) clocked a time of 19:29 in the women’s 5K race
to claim the top honors in the women’s race. Salve Regina
earned a team score of 41 to claim top team honors, while Bard and
Endicott followed with scores of 78 and 83 respectively.
Victor Kemboi (Eldoret, Kenya) of American
International College (AIC) was the men’s top individual
finisher, running the 8K course in a time of 25:03. WNEC earned top
team honors with a score of 74 while AIC, who also scored 74,
finished second. Castleton State totaled a team score of 92 to
finish in third place.
Dabrowski crossed the finish line 43rd overall to lead the
women’s team to a 13th place finish in the 15-team field,
while the men’s team did not register a team score. Dabrowksi
clocked a time of 22:52 in the 5K race that featured 136 runners.
Senior Amanda Koch (Williston, VT) finished 63rd
overall with a time of 24:09.
Warren finished the men’s 8K run in a time of 34.36, while
Ben Kronlund (Longmeadow, MA) turned in a time of
35:46 as the Blazers’ second best runner.
The Elms College cross country teams return to action on Saturday,
Oct. 31 when they host the 2009 New England Collegiate Conference
(NECC) Championships. The women’s race will start at 11:00
a.m. with the men’s race to follow at 12:00 p.m. Both races
will take place at Chicopee Memorial State Park.
