Men's Volleyball Concludes 2025 Season at Lasell in a Conference Tri-Match

AUBURNDALE, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Volleyball team traveled to Lasell University for a conference tri-match against the Lasers and Wentworth Institute of Technology to conclude the 2025 season on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Match 1 

The opening set would see the two conference foes battle for the early lead, with Elms earning kills by sophomore Nick Uschmann (Agawam, Mass.) and first year Yazhua Marin Valentin (Springfield, Mass.), but Lasell would take the 7-4 lead. The Blazers would see five additional kills by junior Rafa Artero (Madrid, Spain), sophomore John Bellafronte (Enfield, Conn.), and Uschmann, but the Lasers would take the set 25-11.

The second set would begin with Lasell earning the early advantage, but Elms would respond offensively with kills from Bellafronte, Uschmann, and Marin Valentin, but the Lasers offense would continue to control the narrative, winning the set 25-15.

The third and final set of the match would once again start with an early Lasell lead, but the Blazers would continue to battle back, creating a rally that would see kills by Marin Valentin, Uschmann, Artero, senior Joshua Fernandez Garcia (Canovanas, P.R.), sophomore Al Sánchez (Guayama, P.R.), and Bellafronte, along with blocks from Uschmann, Marin Valentin, and Fernandez Garcia. Unfortunately, the Lasers would once again secure the set 25-20, and the match 3-0.

Match 2

The opening set would begin with Wentworth taking the early lead, but Elms would create some offensive momentum with the assistance of a kill by Uschmann and multiple errors by the Leopards, but WIT would win the first set 25-12.

The second set would see the Leopards again obtaining the offensive advantage early in the set, but the Blazers would continue to fight back following kills from Marin Valentin and Uschmann, along with a block by Uschmann and Artero, and a service ace by junior David Tompkins (Groton, Conn.). But Wentworth would take the set 25-13.

The third and final set of the season would Elms score the first two points, capitalizing on errors by the Leopards. But the WIT offense would continue to control the narrative. The Blazers would continue their efforts to extend their season by one more set, seeing a service ace by graduate student Tahir Busaidy (Houston, Texas), kills from sophomores Sam Moreno (El Paso, Texas), Najere Bolan (St. Ann Parrish, Jamaica), Bellafronte, and Artero. Unfortunately, the Leopards would secure the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Artero: three kills, a block assist, and a dig.

  • Bellafronte: seven kills, six assists, six digs.

  • Bolan: would record a kill.

  • Busaidy: would record a service ace.

  • Fernandez Garcia: eight digs and a kill.

  • Sánchez: 18 assists, 10 digs, and a kill.

  • Tompkins: recorded a service ace.

  • Uschmann: 11 kills, seven digs, and a block.
