Men’s Soccer Goes 1-0-1 in Weekend Home and Home with Becker

Game One: Elms 0 – Becker 0 (Final – 2OT)

Leisester, MA – In their first game in over 500 days, the Elms College men's soccer program returned to play with a scoreless draw at Becker College on Saturday afternoon from Alumni Field.

After a scoreless regulation, overtime provided a handful of chances for both sides to earn the victory.

The Blazers held an advantage in shots and corners in the game but were unable to find the back of the net.

In overtime, Blazers junior Pedro Duarte (Chicopee, Mass.) owned the best scoring chance of the extra period. On an Elms throw-in deep in Becker territory, the ball was deflected inadvertently toward the Hawks net. Duarte was able to make an adjustment to the deflected ball and crash toward the goal, but not before the Hawks keeper controlled the deflection with his outstretched arms overhead securing the 0-0 tie.

Game Two:  Elms 2 – Becker 1

Chicopee, MA - Coming off a scoreless draw between the Blazers and Hawks on Saturday afternoon, Musa Jiana (Brikama, Gambia) finally got one of the two teams on the board in the 16th minute when converted a penalty kick to give Elms a 1-0 lead.

Off a Blazers corner kick, the ball was sent all the way to the back post before being crossed back to the other side where Jiana was waiting to head the ball into the net for the opening goal of the day.

The Hawks would find the net for the first time this season, late in the first half, on a goal by sophomore Alfredo Alvarez (Romulus, Mich.) in the 43rd minute to tie the game 1-1.

Jiana would put Elms back ahead in the 63rd minute with his second PK of the game, eventually becoming the game-winner in the Blazers 2-1 victory.

The Blazers are back in action on Friday 4/2 when they travel to Nichols College for a 7pm kickoff.
