Women’s Soccer Downs Daniel Webster College, 10-1

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College netted eight goals in the first period and scored 10 in the contest to lift the Blazers to a 10-1 victory over Daniel Webster College in Wednesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms improves to 8-8-1 overall, 7-1-0 in NECC action, while Daniel Webster moves to 0-14-0, 0-8-0 in conference play.

Elms used two goals from sophomore forwards Melissa Welch (Westfield, Mass.), Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.), and single goals from senior midfielders Chelsea Carroll (Meriden, Conn.), Victoria Cebula (Granby, Mass.), sophomore forward Emily Brown (Agawam, Mass.), sophomore defender Lyndsey Oppenheimer (Easthampton, Mass.), sophomore midfielder Michelle Rossignol (Manchester, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Meeghan O'Connor (Fall River, Mass.) to secure the win. O'Connor's score was the first of her collegiate-career, while Carroll and Brown each tabbed their first markers of the season. 

Carroll, Cebula, Welch and Brown each had an assist in the game, and sophomore forward Hannah Spring (South Hadley, Mass.), senior midfielder Christina Goodchild (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior midfielder Carmen Marino (Granby, Mass.) each added an assist.

Daniel Webster's Theresa Soy (Lowell, Mass.) fired the Eagles' lone shot on target which was saved by Elms' senior goalkeeper Hayley Zisk (Baldwinville, Mass.). Daniel Webster used an own goal by the Blazers to post its lone tally.

Elms concludes regular season action on Saturday, October 26 when it hosts Wheelock College at 1:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
